Privacy policy

Gokai is an iOS app that supports the Reiki practice: guided protocols and a discreet transition cue between positions of the body. The answer fits in a few words: Gokai collects no data.

1. No collection

Gokai collects no data: no usage statistics, no device or advertising identifier, no tracker, no third-party SDK, no telemetry. The app makes no network request for measurement, analytics, advertising or telemetry, and Gokai's publisher has access to none of your data.

2. Your data: local storage and iCloud sync

If you are signed in to iCloud, two kinds of data sync automatically across your devices through your account's private CloudKit database:

• The session protocols (names, body positions, durations) you create or edit.
• The cue preferences (haptic, bowl tone, volume, pre-cue reminder).

This data travels encrypted through Apple's infrastructure and stays inaccessible to Gokai's publisher: we have no way to read it. You can turn this sync off in iOS Settings > [your name] > iCloud. Without an iCloud account, it stays on the device.

All other data never leaves the device and is never synced: your reminders, your session history (practice journal) and patient notes. Uninstalling Gokai erases all of it, local and synced on this device alike.

3. No account, no identifier

The app asks for no email, no password, no sign-up, no Apple ID. It works on first launch, with no profile creation.

4. No tracker, no advertising

Gokai contains no third-party tracker, no audience measurement SDK, no advertising SDK, no attribution integration. The app's code is written entirely in-house; the only third-party libraries used are Apple's frameworks (SwiftUI, SwiftData, AVFoundation, CoreHaptics).

5. System permissions

Gokai requests no permission at install time. In use:

• No access to contacts, photos, calendar, location, microphone or health.
• Local notifications only, for the reminders you create in the Practitioner tab; the iOS permission is requested only when you enable your first reminder. No notification ever fires during a session, by design. No push notifications: no server can send any.
• Face ID or passcode, only if you enable the patient-notes lock. Authentication is handled by iOS and never leaves the device.
• Network access limited to Apple's iCloud sync, which you control from iOS Settings; no other outbound connection.

The app uses iOS's background audio API only so the transition bowl can keep ringing if you lock your iPhone during a session. No sound is recorded, no audio stream is transmitted.

6. Purchase and billing

Purchasing Gokai is handled by Apple via the App Store. Payment information is processed by Apple according to their own privacy policy; Gokai neither receives nor stores any banking information.

7. Children

Gokai collects no data and is therefore not subject to any specific obligation under COPPA or the GDPR provisions for children. The app is rated 4+ and contains no sensitive content.

8. Updates

If this policy were to change, for example with the addition of a feature requiring the network, the update would be announced in the version description on the App Store, with a revised date at the top of this document. Previous versions remain available on request.
