Gokai is a practice companion for Reiki on iPhone: position-by-position timer, silent transitions, daily precepts. This page collects the getting-started steps, common questions and how to reach us.
1. Getting started
- On launch, pick a built-in protocol or create your own from the Library tab.
- Start the session from the Session tab. Put the phone down: Gokai moves position by position and signals each transition.
- The transition cue is configured in Settings: sustained haptic, singing bowl, or both.
- The Practitioner tab gathers the precept of the day, customizable reminders (hydration, breathing, pause between two clients), the session journal, patient notes (lockable with Face ID) and the practice resources.
2. Compatibility
- iOS 26 or later, iPhone 11 or later.
- An iPad version is under consideration.
3. Common issues
The singing bowl does not play. Make sure the iPhone ring switch is not on silent, and that the media volume is loud enough. In Gokai, open Settings → Transition cue and confirm the bowl is enabled.
The haptic does not trigger. Open iOS Settings → Sounds & Haptics and enable System Haptics. In silent mode, some iOS settings disable haptics.
My protocols are gone after reinstalling. If you were signed in to iCloud, your protocols resync automatically on a device reconnected to the same account. Otherwise, uninstalling erases local data, by design; recreate your protocols from the Library tab. Session history and patient notes stay local and do not sync.
How to delete all my data. Uninstalling Gokai erases the device's local data. Synced protocols and preferences live in your private iCloud space: clear them from iOS Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Manage Account Storage, or turn off Gokai's sync. The publisher keeps no copy; no data passes through its servers.
Does the screen stay on during the session? Yes. During an active session, Gokai prevents auto-lock so the progress stays readable at a glance. While paused, the screen may lock normally. The timer keeps running even with the iPhone locked or placed face down: the transition cue stays audible and haptic.
4. Data and privacy
Gokai collects no data. Your protocols and preferences may sync through your private iCloud account, inaccessible to the publisher. See the privacy policy for details.
5. Updates
Updates are free and delivered through the App Store. Each version description lists the new items and the fixes.
